Are you one of the thousands of people obsessed with ‘fad’ diets and quick-fix solutions to your weight-loss? If so, it’s time to learn fact from fiction and throw out the many myths you may believe about such diets.
When seeking answers to the questions we have about weight-loss we tend to get bombarded with an overload of information from the internet, television and books we read.
Fad diets come in and out of fashion like the latest trends. From Atkins to ‘the Apple Diet’; there’s always a new one that weight-loss fanatics are raving about – only to be let down when the side-effects or long-term results are disappointing. Meanwhile we are promised amazing results and the prospect of a body like the model’s advertising the diet or product. No such luck.
Do these fad diets sound familiar? Take a look at this list and see if you recognize any of your previous experiments:
- Liquid diet (usually a replacement of meals with a shake)
- The 7 day diet
- The negative calorie diet
- The Ice-cream diet
- The grapefruit diet
…And the list goes on. To avoid being trapped in the web of fad dieting, the answer lies in going back to basics; the good-old ‘five a day’ alongside an active, healthy lifestyle is the only foolproof, lasting cure to being overweight.
True, such fad diets may produce pleasing results in the short-term; you are more than likely to lose those pounds for a while at least. But once you go back to your usual eating habits the weight piles back on and then some. It encourages ‘yo-yo’ dieting which is unhealthy for the body.
So rather than disappointing yourself, stick to what has been proven to produce the best results for weight loss. That means no super-sized meals, counting your calorie intake (this really does work!) and exercising regularly. Aim to exercise for around a minimum of 5 hours per week.
These rules may sound simple but are effective and are the key to successful weight loss. Follow them and just watch your fad diet beliefs go out the window, while the smaller sizes come in!
